Information about Swine Flu
Advice for travellers:
You should check the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) website for information about the area you are travelling to for any advice or recommendations. The World Health Organisation also has some useful information on Swine Flu.
If you travel to a Swine Flu infected area against the advice of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), your insurance policy may be invalid. The information below is relevant for travellers wishing to purchase a policy, or policyholders with policies issued from 1st May 2009. If you have purchased a SunWorldPLUS policy prior to 1st May 2009, please contact us on 0800 389 5904.
If the FCO advises against travelling to the country in which you've booked your trip, the following applies:
• If you've booked a package holiday then your tour operator may offer you a change of trip destination, a change of dates or a refund.
If your tour operator has offered you an alternative holiday and you wish to adjust your insurance cover please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your options.
• If you have purchased our independent travellers cover before the FCO advice was issued then you will be covered for cancellation up to either £750 per person for Economy policyholders or £5,000 per person for Premier policyholders, provided your holiday was booked before the FCO advice was issued.
If you or the person you are travelling with, arranged to stay with, or your close relative or business associates has contracted Swine Flu since booking your trip and you have purchased either our Economy or Premier travel policies prior to this incident, the following applies:
We will pay up to £750 (Economy policies) or £5000 (Premier policies) for any irrecoverable unused travel and accommodation costs (including excursions up to £250) and other pre paid charges which you have paid or are contracted to pay together with any reasonable additional travel expenses.
If you contract Swine Flu during a trip outside of your Home area (Your Home area being the United Kingdom excluding the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man), the following applies:
You will be covered for Emergency Medical and other expenses up to the limit of cover provided. You should contact AXA Assistance immediately via the number given on your Certificate Validation Document.
If you are currently in a swine flu infected area and the FCO advise evacuation, the following applies:
• If you have booked a holiday as a package through a tour operator, contact your tour operator for advice regarding your evacuation.
• If you have booked your trip independently then you will be covered for curtailment up to either £750 per person for Economy policyholders or £5,000 per person for Premier policyholders (provided you followed FCO advice), if you purchased our Independent Travellers cover before the FCO advice was issued.
If you have booked a trip to a swine flu infected area but the FCO haven't advised against travelling to the country in which you've booked your trip, the following applies:
• If you have booked a holiday as a package through a tour operator, contact your tour operator for advice.
• If you have booked your holiday independently, there is no cover under the policy for cancellation of the trip.
IMPORTANT:
Please refer to our Economy or Premier policy wording for full details of the cover provided, including the exclusions and limitations and the claims evidence required.
